Krystyna Nadurska Podraza Passes Away

We note with great sadness that Polish Arts Club member Krystyna Nadurska Podraza passed into the eternal protection of God on Aug. 9, 2016. Born Feb. 2, 1941, in Kamien Koscierski (now in the Ukraine), she was the daughter of Stanislaw and Maria (Kopec) Nadurski. She later attended the Wyzsza Szkola Pedagogiczna in Krakow, where she earned a degree in Polish philology. She so distinguished herself as a student that upon graduation, the school employed her as a graduate assistant. In 1973 she met her future husband, Eugene, who was doing graduate work in Polish history at Jagiellonian University. They married in May 1974, came to America, and settled in Lawrenceville. Krystyna worked for 28 years at Firestone Library at Princeton University as a bibliographic specialist, cataloging Polish and Russian books. For 27 years she also taught beginning and advanced Polish at Mercer County Community College. Krystyna and her husband loved traveling. They travelled extensively throughout Europe, Central America, and the Caribbean. Krystyna's favorite island was the Dominican Republic, where she went nine times. Left to mourn her are her husband, Eugene; sister, Romana Babiarz; niece, Marta and her husband, Eugeniusz Szczebak and their daughter, Malgorzata, of Olesno, Poland. Also left to mourn her are her cousins, Leszek and Barbara Czopinski, and good friends, Todd Weekly, Joanna Clark, Robert Pluta, Robin Reed, and Grazyna Szczepanik. The viewing will be private for the immediate family at the Winowicz Funeral Home. Her remains will be buried in Olesno, Poland.

Krystyna was the Polish Arts Club's 2014 Polonaise Ball Honoree for her numerous contributions to Polonia. Krystyna's love of teaching and of Poland and especially of Krakow has touched the lives and hearts of hundreds of her students, many of whom are not of Polish descent, and who have travelled to Poland because of her. Krystyna loved her students, many of who she regards as her teachers and who have become life-long friends. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to Eugene and their family. Krystyna will be missed very much by the Polish Arts Club members.
