The Mercer County Board of Chosen Freeholders, recently recognized March 6, 2012 as Casimir Pulaski Day in honor of General Casimir Pulaski, a Polish nobleman and soldier who served as a Brigadier-General during the American Revolutionary War. Members of The Polish Arts Club of Trenton attended the Board's March 6 meeting to speak about Pulaski and receive a commemorative proclamation honoring his heroic life. Pulaski's accomplishments during the war include being credited for aiding General Washington's forces in securing victories at the Battles of Brandywine and Germantown, and as the first leader of the newly-created Cavalry. He died on the battlefield during the Battle of Savannah in 1779.
